Summary

so good, so moving, so sad, read in one sitting, now lent to three of my friends

It’s been 20 years since Eva Kor came to my high school and spoke, yet I can still hear her voice through this book。 She was an amazing woman, I’m so thankful I got to listen to her story and now I have it in print。

Imogen Boscoe

The book was okay。 It was interesting to hear of what happened to her however she didn’t really explain much。 Most of the book was her waking up then going to sleep not what torture she went through, what she was injected with。

“Because we were twins, we clung to each other。 Because we were sisters, we depended on each other。 Because we were family, we did not let go。At Auschwitz, dying was so easy。 Surviving was afull- time job。”“Anger and hate are seeds that germinate war。 Forgiveness is a seed for peace。 It is the ultimate act ofself-healing。”

Mandii DiNozzo

Sad but really interesting to hear from a survivor。

Would have loved there to have been more of her story in this book。 Could have read 500 pages! Utterly heartbreaking read though

I feel bad giving this such a low rating but I just feel as though there was nothing overly engaging about the way the author told the story。 There was so much potential

Beth

For a book about the Holocaust, this was an “easier” read than some。 It was interesting to learn of her and her sisters specific experiments and what she did after Auschwitz。

Dana Copeland

Well written! An emotional first hand account of how awful humans can be to one another but the power you hold in forgiving!

Cheyenne Grimes

This is a really sad & tragic story。 A great way to learn about what these people went through。 The life lessons shared by the author & Auschwitz survivor are important & I definitely suggest giving this a read。

Lectora bohemia

Vanskelig å gi en bok som denne "stjerner", om ikke litt upassende。 Det er en viktig bok å lese, personlig og rørende。 Dens eneste "downside" er kanskje at det ikke er nokk sider! Les den om du får muligheten! Eva and Miriam Mores survive the selection line at Auschwitz-Birkenau because they are twins。 At age ten, they are separated from the rest of their family and learn to survive the atrocious conditions at the camp—disease, lack of food and experimentation buy Dr。 Josef Mengele。 Written for a young adult audience, this is an inspiring story of courage and determination。 There have been some Holocaust stories that I have not rated; how do you rate something that is tragic and horrific?

A quick, easy read about a terrible, tragic event

I read this because I enjoyed "The Tattooist of Auschwitz", I enjoy the human stories behind them but this was a bit brief for me。 I suppose I was reading it from the the same place as "The Tattooist。。。" and you cant really as its a persons actual retelling of events from their childhood without all the embroidering of proper storytelling。 Its not a bad book and if you are interested in such things it is worth picking up but perhaps don't expect it to have lots of retelling and details。 I read this because I enjoyed "The Tattooist of Auschwitz", I enjoy the human stories behind them but this was a bit brief for me。 I suppose I was reading it from the the same place as "The Tattooist。。。" and you cant really as its a persons actual retelling of events from their childhood without all the embroidering of proper storytelling。 Its not a bad book and if you are interested in such things it is worth picking up but perhaps don't expect it to have lots of retelling and details。 。。。more

What a remarkable woman Eva is。 A first person account of a horrific atrocity。 The book shifts quickly through her time at auschwitz and name dropping of the more “well known” Nazis is frequent too。 A book that should be read by the human population to avoid any of this happening again!

Eva Mozes Kor had a charmed childhood until the Nazis came。 Her father ran a big farm that produced many fruits and vegetables。 Their mother doted on her girls, especially her youngest twins, Eva and Miriam。 The arrival of Nazi propaganda started making their life in Romania progressively more unbearable until the day they were forced into a train car and taken to Auschwitz。 Upon their arrival, Dr。 Mengele noticed the twins and saved them from the gas chambers that the rest of their family were Eva Mozes Kor had a charmed childhood until the Nazis came。 Her father ran a big farm that produced many fruits and vegetables。 Their mother doted on her girls, especially her youngest twins, Eva and Miriam。 The arrival of Nazi propaganda started making their life in Romania progressively more unbearable until the day they were forced into a train car and taken to Auschwitz。 Upon their arrival, Dr。 Mengele noticed the twins and saved them from the gas chambers that the rest of their family were sent to。 But their lives were spared only for Dr。 Mengele's twisted medical experiments。 Eva shares how she survived that experience。I have read fiction stories about people in Dr。 Mengele's experimental group, but this is the first autobiography。 Eva writes in a way that reflects these being the memories of a child。 I think that's why it felt like this was aimed at middle grade or young adult readers。 That didn't lessen the impact of the story。 It is a moving story of sisterly love and tenacity of spirit in the face of horrible circumstances。 I imagine it would have been difficult for her to tell her story, but it sounds like she wanted her story out even early on so it wouldn't be repeated。 (I recommend reading the notes at the back。) I couldn't put this down, and the engaging storytelling plus the larger font meant I tore through this in just one day。 Definitely recommended for those who like inspiring true stories, WWII autobiographies, and twin/sister stories。 Notes on content: No language issues that I remember。 No sexual content。 She reflects on the embarrassment of being naked in a room with others。 The horrors of life in a Nazi concentration camp and the medical experimentation are related (mostly blood draws and injections of who knows what)。 The numerous deaths at Auschwitz are driven home, but in respectful and tactful ways。 Discrimination, ill treatment, and racist comments the family experienced before their deportation are mentioned (most comments are not repeated)。 。。。more

Enjoyed reading this book about the twin survivors of Auschwits as there were not many children of the holocaust that survived to tell there stories, Eva became a strong person due to her experience as a child at Auschwits and made it her mission to tell the world and also how she forgave her Perpetrators which gave her peace and showed her strong character。
